A LETTER FROM KAY HARTLEY

Good morning Friends,

Kay Hartley is being so gracious to us for not making us sign any sort of contract with her on the use of the building. It is a month by month agreement until our situation at Hinkle is resolved. Rather than a contract, Kay wrote the following letter to our congregation and I wanted to share it with you since it involves us all.

Dear Robert, Paulette and Friends of Hinkle Creek Friends Church,

As I stated to Robert and Paulette, the monthly rent shall be $500.00. I will strive to keep it at that level unless there is a marked increase in the utilities or taxes.

I understand that you have excellent custodians. I ask that you keep your leased areas clean including the sanctuary, overfow rooms to the east of the building, rest rooms that you use on the upper level and the common areas (entries, hall, etc. that you use).

Please furnish the rest rooms on the upper level with toilet paper and toweling. Please keep the waste paper bins empty after the Sunday morning services.

We may use the sanctuary occasionally for funerals or weddings. If we do we will notify you in advance. We will not schedule anything that would conflict with you worshipping here. And we will have an attendant on duty at all times when others are using the areas sactioned by us for the purpose of protecting our property and yours. (We have had one funeral in the sanctuary this year and no weddings so far).

Your Pator or anyone who works for your church for the purpose of cleaning, processing bulletins, etc. may have access to the church at any time. However, please be mindful of the cost of utilities. Please keep the heat thermostat to 55-60 degrees and the air conditioning at 80 degrees when not occupying the sanctuary.

You may have weddings at the The Abbey. However, any extra function will be an additional charge. Also please keep in mind that the sanctuary has seating for approximately 125 maxiumum. Therefore very large weddings could not be held here. I have not arrived at a specific fee but will advise you if you are interested in have this option. (I am in the process of hiring someone on a part time basis to be an attendant for the extra functions we may host in the fellowship area on the lower level and for any other extra functions we allow in the building. When we work out the details I will have a better idea of costs).

Please do not let children roam the building. The south wing of the building (formerly Sunday School Classrooms) have been converted to office space. There are ten offices in this building. Not all are occupied as I have three vacancies. I do not want to lose the tenants I have and hope to fill the vacant offices. The taxes on this facility are very expensive and the utilities are substantial as well. Therefore I will appreciate your help.

All utilities are included with the exception of telephone and trash hauling. You may install a land line in the Pastor's office if you would like. Paper type trash can be taken home with one of your members or you may place it in the north entry area and I will dispose of it. Also the dumpster on the back of the parking lot can be used.

Welcome! I am glad to have you worship here. This building was erected to be a house of worship and I hope it can always be. I will try to assist you in any way I can.

Your friend in Christ,

Kay Hartley

I feel like these are very reasonable expectations of us and have no problem with it at all. I believe our congregation will do all we can to keep the facility clean and would never violate any of her requests. I feel like we are a good match for her and her for us! Kay plans to worship with us the first Sunday we are there! So, we certainly want to welcome and thank her for making this available to us.
