Good Morning!
I was blessed earlier this week to eat lunch with the IYM interns who will be working with Aaron Hughs to support our summer camping season. I’m sure that Ty, Seth, Cierra, Brock and Kayla will do a great job. These outstanding young adults are all veterans of the Quaker Haven camping program and will be working hard to enable yet another generation of campers to experience God personally during a week at summer camp.
I can’t go to Quaker Haven without thinking of folks like Delbert Brown and Edith Odom who served my generation there as camp directors and counselors for years. I can’t go to Quaker Haven without recalling moving experiences I have had there, first as a camper, then as a counselor, and as a camp director for Western Yearly Meeting. Many of you reading these words are reminded of the sense of peace that you still feel as you drive past the stone pillars at the camp entrance. Many of you recall friendships made at camp that sustained you during your youth and blessed you even years later. Many, many recall making a commitment, maybe your first, to Jesus Christ at Quaker Haven Camp.
God has impressed me to pray for Friends in IYM to be receptive to a fresh outpouring of God’s Spirit among us and has particularly challenged me to pray for this spiritual movement to define the future of the next generation of Friends. As our summer camps begin, would you join in praying for God to begin a transforming work among us in the lives of our children and youth?
