Food Pantry

The following email was received from White River Christian Church concerning the Food Pantry outreach this past week:

Friends,

We had a total of 83 families this past Thursday at the pantry. 16 of those guests were first time visitors. Thank you to everyone who responded to the plea for food. Through you God provided plenty of items to help our families through another week. The families received bread and pastry items that are donated weekly from Paradise Cafe and Third Phase, ears of corn donated from a families farm, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and other garden items from many church families, 1 or 2 bags of non-perishable items (depending on their family size) and a gallon of milk and 2 meat items. Their carts were overflowing as was their gratitude. Thank you all for your generousity in helping others. We are overjoyed with some news that we got this week. Meijer grocery store has chosen the White River Christian Church food pantry to assist! This is awesome in many ways. One of the biggest ways is that when you are shopping at Meijer or buying gas at Meijer you can purchase a $10.00 "Simply Give" card (or as many $10 cards as you wish) and Meijer will keep record of this purchase and match it dollar for dollar with a donation to the pantry. It is very simple to do. The cards are available at the self-scan isle. Just take it to the cashier when you pay for your items and they will do the rest. They will match donations up to $100,000!! Our first opportunity to receive this is now underway. It started on August 2 and runs through September 26. As I mentioned, we are overjoyed with this opportunity that God has blessed us with. If you have any questions about this promotion, please give me a call. We need all of your help in getting the word out to your neighbors, friends, family, co-workers. In addition to the "Simply Give" cards that can be purchased at Meijer we are in need of boxes of cereal, pasta sauce, spaghetti, hamburger helper, boxed potatoes and toilet paper, sugar and flour. For the first time I can remember I am happy to say we have been blessed through a couple of sources with diapers. Wipes are always needed as well as dish soap, shampoo and deodarant. Kroger is running a great 10 for $10 promotion. Finally, we are running low on plastic bags to put bread items in and paper bags to give groceries out in if you could help us by recycling yours through us. Please continue to pray for the pantry and our many volunteers. While it is a blessing to be part of this ministry, there is a great deal of work physically as well as emotionally that goes into it. Please consider becoming part of our food pantry team.

Blessings,
