A few years back, we at Hinkle supported the Mission in Haiti which was established by Jack Terry. They had established a Church and School to minister to these many needing people. Jack has travelled there extensively to oversee this ministry. Jack was the former Pastor of Eagle Creek Evangelical Friends Church, and founder and Pastor of Christ Community Church in Lamong (formerly Lamong Friends Church). I received an email from Jack this morning and I can only seem to post a part of it since it is so long, but if anyone would like to see the whole email, I'd be happy to forward it to you privately. I tried to copy and paste it to it's total form, but the blog wouldn't allow me to post that much information. I would love for us to pray about and consider helping him again with this urgent need. Or, you could do what you would like on a personal basis. I'll gather information on how to donate if anyone is interested in doing that. Here is Jack's email:
Good Morning to Everyone! Today is a day to pray, praise & petition for our precious people in Haiti. I am very sad to see the horrible devastation that has hit this poverty stricken island. I am, also, blessed to hear of the miracles that have happened and the people, organizations & churches that are volunteering to help Haiti in this hour of great need. As you may already know about our school-church (CCCWM) located in Pernier, near Puerto Prince. Our pastor Estanvil reported that all of the houses & buildings in the area toppled with the exception of our church-school and former Pastor Maxo Dejanis' house. That is a miracle. I wish to report that Radiant Life Church, located near Westfield, has offered to help financially with the very needy people in our area of Haiti. All of our teachers' homes were destroyed plus the homes of our students. These are some of the most precious children we have ever met. They are so very poor but they have great faith and love. The teachers are so dedicated and loving, also. Blessings to Radiant Life Church and Judy Rosenberger who was able to initiate this request. I heard this morning that the Jesus Film has volunteered to help across the Island plus a number of other organizations. Here is some of the latest reports: 1) 150 UN soldiers are trapped in the ruins of a collapsed building. 2)Tiny bodies of children lie in piles next to the ruins of a collapsed school. 3) Survivors are wandering the streets of Puerto Prince 4) The USA has promised to help Haiti in this hour of need. Please read Charlie Collins', our CCCWM Haiti Director, report from Jay, below. Let's pray for Revival & God's Mercy to move across this Island.
Dear Beloved,
The internet just came up. I'm not sure how long it will last, but thank you Jesus!
First, Taina and I are ok. most of our staff is ok, but there has been loss. Haiti is devestated. Markets, banks, houses, hotels are all collapsed. Death is everywhere. On the day of the earthquake, Ty and I were going to go to our favorite market. I complained of fatigue and opted out of going to Ty's shagrin. She wanted snacks. If we had gone, we would had died. That market collapsed and we would had been there. Our church roof collapsed on a bible school class and we lost 30, some of which I was very close to. I spent the better part of yesterday trying to dig out a few burried alive. We had not yet reached them when I just gave out. I had been working on about 2 hours sleep, so I had to go as we were waiting on a crane. The school sustained damage but repairable. Mostly security walls down, broken glass, computers broken ect. The church will need a rebuild. We're working on the possiblity of doing open air service on our land. hopefully we'll be able to gather the faithful, pray and encourage one another.
Our soccor field is a tent city. We will begin feeding today. I pray it doesn't create a riot and it is orderly. Food shipments will be a priority in the near future. At the moment I'm pretty sure the customs and the port are closed. We have heard of reports that a hospital ship and an aircraft carrier may be in today. Medical attention is a great need. Many have sent emails asking what you can do. Our immediate need is of course finance. As airport and other infastructure opens and we know we can buy food, we'll begin to bring those who want to come in...in.
Our greatest concern is fuel, food, and water and medical assitance to those in need. We have limited amount of all. We do not know when any of those items will be available. I'll do my best to stay in touch with all of you, but realize, we're pretty busy.. Phones are trying to come up, but I've tried to call Linda and still can't get out. Linda is state side and you can contact her at: 321-427-0966. My Haiti cell is 011-509-3454-7647. I'm leaving my stateside phone on...321-258-3049, However neither are working at the moment. You can try if you want.
We have taken pics but will have to send them another time.
We love you all.... I think I want to start saying and telling you that a lot now. Please pray for Haiti.
Jay

My heart aches to hear these things. Dear God please be with all the people of Haiti now and in the future. I feel so helpless being so far away. I've heard corruption in the Government is a big problem there. It's a beautiful place but the poverty is extreme. I hope in time safer structures will replace the ones that have fallen. I feel silly for complaining over minor discomforts when peoples lives have been so torn apart by this tragedy. Like Jay wrote at the end of the letter I too feel like expressing love and appreciation for all of you.
