HINKLE'S EASTER TRADITION CONTINUES

Back in the early 1930's, a Sunday School Class led by Frank Klingensmith came up with the idea of serving a breakfast on Easter Morning at the Church. There was a small gas stove in the back classroom behind the pulpit area. Mary Hiatt (Jay Hiatt's wife) was one of those teens who cooked eggs and bacon and served them to all who came that Easter morning. Every year since, the tradition continued and was made more special after the basement was dug in the next couple of years. It was fully equipped with a kitchen and dining hall making it easier to serve the traditional Hinkle Easter Breakfast. Over the years, Mary Hiatt continued that tradition and took it upon herself to prepare a fabulous breakfast year after year. It usually consisted of bacon, ham, scrambled eggs, toast, sweet rolls, orange juice, and coffee. As the years have rolled by, we are still carrying on this tradition and this year is no exception. Mary would be proud that we have continued this event. The change is that we now have breakfast casseroles availabe that can be made at home and brought in. Thanks to Denny Griffith for his expertise in making pancakes there in the kitchen. As I understand it, through many calls, it appears we will have a nice crowd for this breakfast and we are need for any of you coming to bring extra food. We wouldn't want our guests to feel they have to bring food since this is an outreach of Hinkle Creek Friends. So, I'm asking if any of you can just make an extra casserole or a dish that would serve several people, it would be so appreciated. This is a time for us to show the community and all of our visitors what a great Church we have and a wonderful family of loving people ready to serve. I am so thrilled as I look back over the past 8 years to see the great Spiritual Growth happening among our congregation. I believe it is contagious and this Sunday is a time that I hope we will all pray for the Holy Spirit to come and visit us in a special way through every activity that happens at Hinkle. All of this is done through the spirit of love and serving one another. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night (our first Good Friday Service) and also on Easter morning. Can't help but to see the comparison of us eating breakfast together just as Jesus cooked breakfast for his Disciples after His Ressurection. So, when we serve this meal, we do it in rememberance of what Christ did and taught in servanthood.
