A Visit to The Stable

When she was but a little lass,
I took my child's hand in mine;
We walked up to the manger scene
As the church bells began to chime.

My little girl knelt by the stable,
Enraptured by all it portrayed;
She saw the mother gaze in awe
At the infant, in a manger laid.

With one wee hand, she reached to pat
The babe who was sleeping inside.
Watching her stirred old memories;
My heart loosed its stubborn pride.

The hardened shell of bitterness
Fell around me in shards of dross;
As I knelt beside my daughter,
I saw my Savior on a cross.

I saw the old cross of Calvary
Through the faith of a little child;
Her love for Jesus quickened my own,
The love I had too long denied.

As the bells tolled out the good news,
My heart joined in to sing their song;
A visit to the stable brought me
Back to the Savior, where I belong!
She will give birth to a son,
and you are to give him the name Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.
(Matthew 1:21)
