Ben's Story

On Christmas night, Ben Breedlove, a bright and engaging 18-year-old, died from complications of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), an abnormal thickening of the heart's walls. He had already outlived his life expectancy with the hereditary condition.
And while his story is heartbreaking, Breedlove has already left a legacy of warmth and hope that outshines the tragedy of his death: a video the Austin, Texas teen left behind has gone viral on YouTube, touching thousands of people who had never met him, and bringing one famous rapper to tears.
For more than a year, Breedlove had developed a devoted following on YouTube. Charming and witty, Breedlove would offer kids his age from all over the world advice on everything from dating to studying.
But the video he made just before Christmas was of a much more personal and intimate nature. He shared the details of living and often struggling with a disease that was supposed to have taken his life years earlier. He does so wordlessly, his message written on a series of index cards, as an instrumental version of Gary Jules's Mad World played in the background.

The video, filmed in two parts, wasn't found until just after he had died on Christmas Day, playing in the yard with his brother.
His mother, Deanne Breedlove, told the Austin American-Statesman that the videos brought an element of joy amid the grief.
"It was a gift to us," she said. "And for him to be so confident and unafraid of death and to share it with other people was so touching."
In his final video, Breedlove used notecards to describe the three times in his life he "cheated death", surviving seizures that could have taken his life.
"I was never allowed to play all the sports that my friends did," the cards say in his final message. "It kinda sucks that I missed out on that part of my life. I really just hoped that I could be the same as everyone else."
The most recent seizure, Breedlove wrote, had only happened a few weeks earlier, after he passed out at school in early December. While paramedics worked to revive him, Breedlove said he had a vision that Kid Cudi appeared with him in a white room, while his favorite song, Mr Rager, played in the background.
When he came to, he wrote, "I then looked at myself in the mirror. I was proud of myself, of my entire life, everything I have done."
Kid Cudi saw the video and was moved to write to Breedlove from his Tumblr account.
"I am so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, I am to tears because I hate how life is so unfair," Kid Cudi, whose given name is Scott Mescudi, wrote.
"To Ben's family: you raised a real hero."

Oh my this really did make me LOL

Thank you!

Just wanted to thank you for your prayers for my situation that I found myself in after the oral surgery. I had not idea this nasty bug could be so bad and hurt like it did. After 5 prescriptions and a diligent routine of pills, mouth washes and lozenges 5 times a day, the pain has subsided and I can now eat very soft unseasoned foods. Thank you Pam for sending home the chicken and noodles and mashed potatoes - they really filled the bill for me last evening. I was getting pretty tired of drinking Ensure and warm low salt chicken broth. I'm thankful to have such a good doctor that got right on top of this and got me the help I needed. Apparently, once it started spreading it went like wildfire throughout my mouth, down my throat, and even in my nose. Being santitary is the key to keep it under control besides the medication. I've gone through so much bleach, I'll have to buy more before Paulette gets home!! LOL! Even had to buy a supply of toothbrushes and throw each one away after use. Been drinking from paper cups, paper plates, and plastic wear. I really appreciate the quiet I have experienced through this as the medication makes me very sleepy and it's nice to nap without phone interruptions. I believe by tomorrow I should be back to normal, although I have to keep up with the medication for another 10 days or so. Again, thank you for your concern and prayers. It has just meant the world to me. Let's all pray that 2012 will prove to be a much better year for all of us. Seems like many of us in the congregation has experienced a lot of challenges in 2011. Just know I continue to pray for all of you too - so I'm still on the job!!! LOL!

Magnificent!

Kaylee

I spoke with Shirley this morning and she is asking for prayer for Kaylee. She is in the hospital with a bad cough. She is at The Peyton Manning Children's Hospital. They are hoping she can come home today. She needs to drink a lot of liquids the Doctor said. She had a fever and the croup. Thankfully she has the care she needs to get better. Please pray for Kaylee to get better soon and pray for her family as well that they may feel Gods Love and comfort as Kaylee's health is restored.
Thank you,
Kelly

Good Morning

I received an email from Bob today saying he thinks the medicine is working but it may be a few days before he really feels any better. The medicine makes him sleepy so he is resting, which is good. He is not taking phone calls right now so please email me or call me or anyone on Ministry and Oversight if you need anything. Or you can email Bob.

My email is

PRAYER NEEDED

Please everyone begin praying and keep praying for Pastor Stubbs. He has an infection from his oral surgery. He has been to the Doctor and has medicine and is at home resting. Please do not call or text because he really needs his sleep to get well. I am asking for prayer for him from everyone who reads this blog. Please post on here if you want to show your support or send me an email and I will post it for you.
haemmertime1@aol.com
Or send Bob an email.
Also, please let anyone who you think may join us in praying for him know as well. Pastor Stubbs needs our prayers and our support. We will now stand in the gap for Bob as he so often does for us.  This is what we as Christians are called to do. We are to provide a direct link to God for those who are unable to stand on their own.
Thank You,
Kelly

A Visit to The Stable

When she was but a little lass,
I took my child's hand in mine;
We walked up to the manger scene
As the church bells began to chime.

My little girl knelt by the stable,
Enraptured by all it portrayed;
She saw the mother gaze in awe
At the infant, in a manger laid.

With one wee hand, she reached to pat
The babe who was sleeping inside.
Watching her stirred old memories;
My heart loosed its stubborn pride.

The hardened shell of bitterness
Fell around me in shards of dross;
As I knelt beside my daughter,
I saw my Savior on a cross.

I saw the old cross of Calvary
Through the faith of a little child;
Her love for Jesus quickened my own,
The love I had too long denied.

As the bells tolled out the good news,
My heart joined in to sing their song;
A visit to the stable brought me
Back to the Savior, where I belong!
She will give birth to a son,
and you are to give him the name Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.
(Matthew 1:21)

CHRISTMAS DAY SERVICE

Just wanted to remind everyone that Service this Sunday will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. this Sunday. Marianne Isaacs is leading the song service where we will be singing Christmas Songs, then following that, I'd like to ask that ALL of you be prepared to share something about Christmas like what it means to you, a good memory, how it has impacted your life, etc. This Sunday, I want to give EVERYONE an opportunity to say something so we are all sharing in the experience. So, be thinking and praying about what the Lord would have you to say this Sunday as you minister to each other. I will be keeping our service right at an hour so you can get back home to continue sharing Christmas with your families. Please spread the word about the time frame.

Steve's Surgery

Just wanted to let you all know that Steve's surgery went well and wasn't as evasive as they feared. It ended up being a problem with his appendix. They will observe him and he may get to come home in a couple of days - just in time for Christmas. Thank you all for your prayers for Steve.

Prayer Needed

I just received word that Steve Roberts is at Carmel St. Vincent Hospital with a blockage to his intestine and may require surgery to fix the problem. Please remember Steve and Judy as they go through this especially at this time of year. I'm sure he is in much pain with this situation.

Also, Paulette's uncle, Don Shelburne passed away and his funeral is this coming Wednesday. His father was Roy Shelburne who Pastored at Hinkle some years back. Seems there is much sadness this Christmas for so many in our Church Family.

WRCC Food Pantry Newsletter from Kim DeMasie

Another busy night at the pantry with 150 families including 18 new families. They were assisted by 34 volunteers and 17 volunteers on Tuesday that helped stock. It is disheartening to see so many new families coming through our doors sheepishly looking for assistance. We pray for a change in the economy to help lift the burden to these families.
We are well stocked at this time on canned goods due to several local food drives. Our main needs include cereal, (which can be found at Kroger for $1.99 a box) oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup, sugar, flour, juices, boxed dinners, pasta and pasta sauce and snacks (which include chips, cookies, boxed cakes)
Meijer is selling "Simply Give" cards for $10. The $10 and a portion from Meijer is given to the pantry. Please consider buying a couple of cards at the register to help another familiy this Christmas. This will be benefiting our pantry through the end of the year. We would like to thank Kroger for recently sending us a check for over $500 from their "Feed the Hungry" program. We are also grateful to Marsh for all of their donations and breads and sweets that we receive weekly.
Thanks to everyone that decorated the trees at the pantry and put up decorations. It looks beautiful for our families to enjoy. We also want to thank all of the high school students that come help us after school. You are awesome for being so unselfish with your time and showing others the hands and feet of Jesus.

Food Pantry

Reminder for everyone to bring an item for the food pantry on Sunday. If everyone just brings one item we can make an impact on those shelves over there at
White River Christian Church this Holiday season.
For anyone who has never been over there. You may want to go by sometime and see the pantry for yourself. It is a very impressive place and it will help you to understand better what the whole process is, and the need. I know it did me.
May God Bless you all this Holiday Season.
And may your hearts be filled with the Love and Joy and Peace that comes with knowing Christ.

Prayers for Paulette

I just want to encourage everyone to pray for Paulette, Bob and their entire family during this difficult time. I know everyone is already doing that but I just wanted to ask everyone to really spend some extra time in deep prayer over the Menard family, especially Paulette's mom. I know that Paulette and her mom have spent many hours praying for our church and I have been personally impacted by Paulette's prayers for my life. My hope is that our prayers will work together to bring them the comfort and sense of God's love they need right now. I am also hoping and praying for a really big turn out at church these next two Sundays. I know nothing would please them more than hearing that the church was full and full of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is loving us, watching over us and guiding us. And he's listening. I want to give him praise, thanks and stand in the gap for my friends and family who are hurting. ANd if we can do all that in one accord we can really change lives and hearts.

Evangelist Billy Graham is in "good spirits" and resting comfortably in an Asheville, North Carolina, hospital Thursday, a day after he was admitted for evaluation and treatment of his lungs, a spokesman said.
Graham spent time reading the Bible and praying with his daughter, Gigi, Wednesday night, Graham spokesman A. Larry Ross said on Twitter.
When Graham -- who turned 93 on November 7 -- was admitted to Mission Hospital, "he was alert, smiling and waving at hospital staff," according to a statement from the hospital.
"While no date has been set for discharge, Mr. Graham is looking forward to returning home to spend the upcoming Christmas holidays with his family," the statement said.
Graham, who has provided counsel to generations of U.S. presidents beginning with President Harry S. Truman, is the founder of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association. The association said the evangelist was in stable condition and is being tested for possible pneumonia.
A resident of nearby Montreat, Graham was also hospitalized in May for successful treatment of pneumonia, the hospital said.
The Charlotte native has preached to untold millions over six decades, beginning his missionary work in 1944 when he started speaking at rallies for the Youth for Christ Campus Life ministry. Five years later, Graham was holding crusades in tents in downtown Los Angeles. Originally scheduled for three weeks, the crusades drew so many followers they were extended to seven.
His most recent book, "Nearing Home," was published in October.
Graham's "last crusade" in June 2005 drew a total of 230,000 people.
He described it as his last American crusade, but hedged his farewells during a poignant appearance in Corona Park in Queens, New York.
"We hope to come back again someday," Graham announced. "I was asked in an interview if this was our last crusade and I said it probably is -- in New York. But I also said, 'I never say never.' "
