BIRTHDAY CARDS
Good morning everyone. Was thinking about Geneva Berry's 95th birthday tomorrow. Just thought it would be nice if as many of us can, to send her a birthday card today. She would likely get it tomorrow if mailed today. Even if it's a day late or so, I know she would appreciate a birthday card shower from her Church Family. Her address is: 22465 Gifford Ave., Cicero, In. 46034. We are blessed as a Church to have two people at that age! I don't know about you, but I sure enjoyed hearing her whistle during "her song" I played yesterday. What a talented lady.

Update from Sunday's Sermon
If you were at Hinkle on Sunday, you will recall me giving more of a testimony than a sermon concerning my cousin and his funeral this past week. If you remember, I told you about his children left behind and the one that asked me to pray for him when he left the funeral. I received a call from him this evening and asked me to pray him through to accept Jesus into his heart!!!! He was so emotional and said he needed to turn his life around and didn't know what to say to the Lord. We had a long time of prayer and talking and I could tell he was a different young man when we hung up! God is so faithful to hear us when we call upon Him! I wasn't sure why I spoke about that Sunday, but it was so fresh on my mind and it really affected me going through that. Now I know exactly why I was supposed to speak about it to you. I feel like some of you were praying for this family and God wanted you to know about them. I'm just so touched this evening and had to share it.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always ...green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

PLEASE PRAY ON SATURDAY
I'd like all of you to remember Jacob and myself as we attend the Administrative Counsel Meeting in Plainfield tomorrow where they will either approve or disapprove our withdrawal from Western Yearly Meeting. I'd specifically like you to pray that God's Will be done and there will be a spirit of love as we go through this as your representatives. This is a historical day for Hinkle Creek Friends. We both will covet your prayers.
From Bev Stewart
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
The 7 Ups! |
|
1. Wake Up !! Decide to have a good day. 'This is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.' Psalms 118:24 |
|
2. Dress Up !! The best way to dress up is to put on a smile. A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. 'The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.' I Samuel 16:7 |
|
3. Shut Up!! Say nice things and learn to listen. God gave us two ears and one mouth, so He must have meant for us to do twice as much listening as talking. 'He who guards his lips guards his soul.' Proverbs 13:3 |
|
4. Stand Up!! . . . for what you believe in. Stand for something or you will fall for anything. 'Let us not be weary in doing good; for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good...' Galatians 6:9-10 |
|
5. Look Up !! . . to the Lord. 'I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me'. Philippians 4:13 |
|
6. Reach Up !! . . for something higher. 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.' Proverbs 3:5-6 |
|
7. Lift Up !! . . your Prayers. 'Do not worry about anything; instead PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING.' Philippians 4:6 |
|
A POSITIVE THOUGHT If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring, and a sunrise every morning. Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen. He could live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart. What about the Christmas gift He sent you in Bethlehem ; not to mention that Friday at Calvary . Face it, He's crazy about you. I thought this was mighty special, just like YOU. Pass this on and brighten someone's day, and remember . .... God answers Knee-Mail! |

Scriptures to Ponder
"For as the body is one and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews, or Gentiles, whether we be bond of free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it has pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body." I Corinthians 12:12-20
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12
"For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." I Corinthians 14: 33

Holy Bible: A General Overview
The Holy Bible is a phenomenal account of history, comprised of 66 books, written over approximately 1600 years, by at least 40 distinct authors. The Old Testament (Old Covenant) contains 39 books written from approximately 1500 to 400 BC, and the New Testament (New Covenant) contains 27 books written from approximately 40 to 90 AD. The Jewish Bible (Tenach) is the same as the Christian Old Testament, except for its book arrangement. The original Old Testament was written mainly in Hebrew, with some Aramaic, while the original New Testament was written in Greek.
Holy Bible: The Old Testament
The Holy Bible begins with the Jewish Scriptures. The historical record of the Jews was written down in leather scrolls and tablets over centuries, and the authors included kings, shepherds, prophets and other leaders inspired by God. In Exodus, God tells Moses to write the Law (Torah) in a book. About 450 BC, all of the Jewish scriptures were collected and arranged by councils of rabbis, who then recognized the complete set as the inspired and sacred authority of God. Beginning as early as 250 BC, the Hebrew Bible (Tenach) was translated into Greek by Jewish scholars in Alexandria, Egypt. The translation became known as the Septuagint, meaning 70, and referring to the tradition that 70 or 72 men comprised the translation team. At this point, the books of the Hebrew Bible were arranged by topic, including history, poetry, and prophecy. In 90 AD, at the Council of Jamnia, the Jewish elders established the final Hebrew Bible canon. Although the Jewish Scriptures were copied by hand, they were extremely accurate copy to copy. The Jews had a phenomenal system of scribes, who developed intricate and ritualistic methods for counting letters, words and paragraphs to insure that no copying errors were made. In fact, scribal tradition was maintained until the invention of the printing press in 1455. As far as manuscript accuracy, the recent discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls has confirmed the remarkable reliability of the Old Testament texts over the years.
Holy Bible: The New Testament
After approximately 400 years of scriptural silence, Jesus arrived on the scene in about 4 BC. Throughout His teaching, Jesus often quotes the Old Testament, declaring that He did not come to destroy the Jewish Scriptures, but to fulfill them. In Luke 24:44, Jesus proclaims to his disciples, “All things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.” Starting in about 40 AD and continuing to about 90 AD, the eye-witnesses to the life of Jesus Christ, including Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, James, Peter and Jude write the Gospels, letters and books that later become the New Testament. These authors quote from 31 books of the Old Testament, and widely circulate their material so that by about 150 AD, early Christians were referring to the set of writings as the New Covenant. During the 200s AD, the writings were translated into Latin, Coptic (Egypt) and Syriac (Syria) and widely disseminated. At this time, at least 21 of the writings were considered canonical. Thereafter, in 397 AD, the current 27 books of the New Testament were formally confirmed and canonized in the Synod of Carthage.
Like the Old Testament, we now have significant evidence that the New Testament we read today is remarkably accurate as compared to the original manuscripts. Of the thousands of copies made by hand before the printing press, we have approximately 24,000 manuscripts, including more than 5,300 Greek manuscripts from the New Testament alone. The Bible is better preserved, by far, than accepted writings of Homer, Plato and Aristotle. Of course, as the Bible was carried from country to country, it was translated into languages that don’t necessarily mirror the original languages of Greek and Hebrew. However, other than grammatical and cultural differences, God’s Word has been remarkably preserved and translated over the years. The Bible now gives inspiration to hundreds of millions throughout the world – that’s because the Bible is truly the inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17 and 2 Peter 1:20-21).

Why the American Flag is Folded 13 Times
Why The American Flag Is Folded 13 Times
Have you ever wondered why the flag of the United States of America is folded 13 times when it is lowered or when it is folded and handed to the widow at the burial of a veteran? Here is the meaning of each of those folds and what it means to you.
The 'first fold' of our flag is a symbol of life.
The 'second fold' is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.
The 'third fold' is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.
The 'fourth fold' represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.
The 'fifth fold' is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our Country, in dealing with other countries may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong."
The 'sixth fold' is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States Of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
The 'seventh fold' is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.
The 'eighth fold' is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on Mother's Day.
The 'ninth fold' is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.
The 'tenth fold' is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.
The 'eleventh fold', in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
The 'twelfth fold', in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.
When the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our nation's motto, "In God We Trust".
After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.
The next time you see a flag ceremony honoring someone that has served our country, either in the Armed Forces or in our civilian services such as the Police Force or Fire Department, keep in mind all the important reasons behind each and every movement. They have paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of us by honoring our flag and our Country.

Thank You, all VETERAN'S
To Every Veteran
I love this land, America,
and our Red, White and Blue,
And every noble patriot,
who loves this country, too,
Who's fought for freedom and liberty,
to keep this nation free,
And all who've served and are serving,
from sea to shining sea.
With pride in heart and spirit,
and love for one and all,
I honor and salute you,
for answering this nation's call,
To fight for and defend the cause
men fought for through the years,
To keep America safe and free,
and you deserve three cheers.
Hurray for the brave heroes
who've fought for liberty,
Sons and daughters of Uncle Sam,
who love it just like me,
And love our flag, Old Glory,
and what it stands for, too,
And with our hand upon our heart,
we salute YOU.
And with our heads bowed in prayer,
we thank the Lord above,
For helping safeguard freedom,
and those we dearly love,
Who now are serving in Iraq,
to free the people there,
And also in Afghanistan,
true freedom thus to share
With those who long have been oppressed,
and prayed that they might be
Free from pain and suffering,
and free from tyranny,
For all are Father's children,
His sons and daughters, too,
And Father wants them to be free,
His noble work to do.
So with hand upon our heart,
we honor you today,
And thank you for the courage
to defend the USA,
And for your willingness to serve
the cause of liberty,
Wherever you are called to serve,
to keep this nation free.
May God bless America,
and every Veteran, too,
Who's safeguarded our freedom,
and our Red, White and Blue,
And God bless the families
whose loved ones gave their all,
And died upon the battlefield
while standing brave and tall.
And may we kneel in humble prayer
and thank the Lord above,
For freedom and for liberty,
and for this land we love,
And for the men and women
who love this country, too,
And serve in the Armed Forces,
our freedom to pursue.

If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done. Matthew 6:14-15 (TEV)
"For your own sake, let go of the past. If somebody hurt you, let go of it, release them."
In your life, you will be hurt by others; sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally. How you handle that hurt determines your happiness. When you bottle up hurt in your life and hold onto it - that's called resentment. If somebody hurt you years ago and you're still holding onto it, it will poison your life. For your own health and happiness, you must learn to forgive.
The Bible says forgive and be forgiven. In fact, Jesus says "if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done" (Matthew 6:15 TEV). They're inter-related. It reminds me of the story where someone told John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, "I just can't forgive that person! They hurt me too badly." Wesley's response was, "Then I hope you never sin."
For your own sake, let go of the past. If somebody hurt you, let go of it, release them. That's one of the values of prayer. It helps you unload. Forgiveness is the only way to get rid of the past. Forgive them and let it go. Get on with life. Forgiveness erases the videotape of that hurt memory that keeps playing over and over in your mind.
When we let go of our hurts and forgive others, we are reflecting the grace of our heavenly Father who forgave us and continues to forgive us. It means we've given God our love; we've given God our lives; and, in doing that, we worship God.

Thank you to everyone who came out last evening to celebrate Jay Hiatt's 95th birthday! He was really shocked and surprised and I could tell it really touched him. I handed him a whole bag full of cards that he can take his time looking through. It was a great evening and fun to do that for Jay. Thanks again to all!
Praise God!
I am so thankful to report that Kelsey Stewart's surgery yesterday went very well. The surgeon said that he was very pleased with the results. What a relief to hear such encouraging words from the surgeon. The surgery was expected to take five hours and was over in two. Thank you for everyone's prayers!
I listened to Bob's sermon from Sunday on the way home from the Hospital last night and it confirmed what I had just experienced. God gives grace to the humble.
Kelsey's additude going into surgery was that it's all in Gods hands and he was praying for others he met at the Hospital and telling them how much God loves them. I hope someday everyone gets to meet Kelsey. He is one of the most joyful Christians I know and he loves to share Gods love with anyone he meets. He will walk up to strangers and tell them that God asked him to tell them about Gods love. He is like a kid on Christmas morning when it comes to his relationship with Jesus. He is just not self conscience at all about his faith. He loves to share it with others. Thank you God for getting Kelsey the help he needed so fast. When I think of all the prayers that were raised to God for Kelsey's life I too feel humbled by this entire experience.
Please continue to pray for the Stewart family.
Thank you all so very much,
Kelly

Prayer Request
Please pray for my friend Kelsey Stewart. He is married to my best friend Kelly.Kelly and I have been friends for over 30 years. They have been married over 20 years . They have five children, Hailey, Noah, Elisha, Chloe & Brianna. Kelsey just found out he has a brain tumor. He found out yesterday and is at Methodist Hospital. I will keep you updated as I know more. Can you please include Kelsey and his family in your prayers? Kelly told me last night that God was showing them his love through his people and that they were feeling supported and strong. Kelly was a prayer warrior for me for years and I am asking you from the bottom of my heart to join me in prayer to lift this family up and ask for Gods healing, comfort and strength for all of them.
Thank you all so very much,
Kelly

Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard on this first phase of Hinkle's restoration. (Which has been mostly demolition.) The Trustees have done a wonderful job organizing all of the details. Thank you to everyone who brought food on Saturday and for all of you who have been praying for Hinkle. I know we've even had some people come and help who aren't even members of Hinkle Creek Friends. Still a long way to go but we are on our way!

Hurricane Tomas
Port-Au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) -- Experts feared Monday that the hurricane that battered Haiti over the weekend could worsen the outbreak of cholera that has killed hundreds of people and hospitalized thousands since it began last month.
The official death toll attributed to the outbreak was 544, with more than 8,000 confirmed cases, Health Minister Alex Larsen told CNN Monday.
Though no cases have been confirmed in Port-au-Prince, tests were being carried out on 91 residents of the capital -- all of whom live in or near the city's densely populated Cite Soleil slum, Larsen said. Except for one person who died over the weekend, all the others have recovered, he said.
Hurricane Tomas' trek past Haiti killed 20 people and injured another 36, a Communications Ministry official said Monday. Seven people were missing and 5,954 were homeless, the official said.
Health officials fear that the water dumped by the storm will worsen the outbreak. The concern is that overflow from latrines and septic tanks could contaminate the supply of fresh drinking water and contribute to the spread of the bacteria.
In the capital, the canals were not overflowing, said American Red Cross spokeswoman Andrea Koppel. But that was not the case in cities west of the capital, which bore the brunt of Hurricane Tomas, she said.
Still, even Port-au-Prince looks and smells like a dump -- a caldron of water, garbage and human waste. "We get used to it," said one resident.
Ten months after a magnitude-7 earthquake laid waste to much of the nation, people compete with animals scavenging through the ubiquitous dumps for scraps of food.
"The quick solution is management," said Environment Minister Jean Marie Claude Germain. "Management meaning that you have a structure in place, but the structure was not conceived with the slums in mind."
But most of the residents of Port-au-Prince live in slums.

Blog Statistics
Yesterday we had 66 visitors on our blog.
Last month we had 1,103 visitors.
Since May we've had 5,492 visitors.
80 from Canada
22 from the Netherlands
15 from Russia
11 from Taiwan
8 China
5 UK
5 Italy
5 Malaysia
This is our 1,200 post.
Aren't statistics exciting? I could even make a graph. But I won't. Well, I might, but I won't post it...well...
We are expanding our territory! I would like to encourage everyone to contribute to the blog whenever you feel like it. The more the merrier and maybe something you write about could touch the heart of someone and make a difference in their lives. I'm so glad Christians kept reminding me of Gods grace until I came to know it for myself. It took a long time and many many occasions for me to finally understand the message. God loves me. God loves you. God is love. Amen! SO, lets send a message to anyone who might be listening out there about our Savior, Jesus Christ, the Redeemer, the Messiah.

Interesting Tidbit about the Church Discovered
I went up to the Church today and found Mike Haemmerle and Larry Butcher working away clearing out the attic. All of the tin has been removed from the ceiling and it revealed a bit of history which may be part of the cause of our problem. Years ago, there was a wall down the center of the Sanctuary running north and south to separate the men and women as was the custom of the Quakers at the time our Sanctuary was built. You can see the evidence of a chimney on both the east and west end of the building which kept each side warm in the winter months. The middle wall was torn out to allow the Sanctuary to be opened up for everyone to worship together. At that time, the floor was sloped, the platform was built, and the wall on the west end with the two swinging doors was constructed. It appears that the wall that once stood to divide the men and women was right under the main beam that has slipped and is in failure! So, in looking at it, it is believed this was a supporting wall when the building was orginally built and over the years (by removing that center wall), that main beam had no support and has gradually slipped. I thought you would all be interested in hearing about that new discovery. Hopefully things can be supported so there will no longer be any danger in the future.

As many of you know, near the end of September there was a freak storm that left 5 dead in Port Au Prince and destroyed countless tents and temporary structures that have housed thousands of refugees since the January 12th earthquake. This included the 22,000 square foot ministry tent that had been donated to FOMM by City Church in Washington state! After salvaging what we could, the tent was put back but it was only half the size of the original. We are currently trying to get the materials needed and a team to come in and re-fabricate the tent to it’s original size.
Now, just a month later there are reports of tropical storm Tomas’ heading our way! By Monday there is the possibility of a category 2 or 3 storm being off the southern coast of Haiti if the storm takes it’s current path. If the storm tracks any further to the north, Port Au Prince will take a direct hit! Brothers and sisters…we do not need this! Over 100,000 people are still living on the streets, taking shelter in tents, under tarps and in cardboard and plywood shanty towns! There is little sanitation and with a record rainy season we are already seeing Cholera spread like wildfire in the tent cities. Almost 200 people have died from this dread disease in just the past two weeks.
We are asking that you join us in prayer! Pray for this storm to be still! Pray for this storm to turn away from the people of Haiti! Pray also against the Cholera epidemic that is killing children, the elderly and others! Pray for the nation’s upcoming elections…that corruption would be rooted out, exposed and cast aside as the people elect a new government. This has been an extremely difficult year for this nation and it’s people and we are asking all of you to stand with us in speaking “Peace…Be Still!” over all the issues and circumstances that the people of Haiti are facing! It is time to intercede!
And as important as prayer is, how much we need you to stand in the gap with us and for us, there is so much more that you can do! We need to raise the funds to be out from under the tent and in a new building! We need partners to raise the needed funds to build homes for the people displaced by the quake. We need the funds to outfit our medical clinic and keep the medicines and supplies stocked! We need you to partner with us! Please consider a year end gift to help set the stage for FOMM to move forward in 2011. You can find contact info on this website as well as our PayPal link for secure online giving. Please let others know about the work we are doing as we minister to the people of Haiti!
