Don C. Menard, 86, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Monday, November 28, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. Menard, son of Sibley Lafayette and Josie (Satchfield) Menard, was born April 12, 1925, in Nady, Arkansas. He retired from Firestone Products after 30 years of service. Mr. Menard attended New Hope Baptist Church and enjoyed cutting wood, working on old cars and music. He was a World War II veteran and had served with the U. S. Army in occupied Japan.
On October 29, 1944, he was married to Francis Jeanette Tharp at Tichnor, Arkansas. She survives. Mr. and Mrs. Menard had just celebrated their 67th anniversary.
Also surviving are two daughters; Melody Lynn (Robert) Andersen of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Eunice Paulette (Robert) Stubbs of Westfield, Indiana; three sons, Orville Rex (Marilyn) Menard of Harvard, Illinois, Lyle Allen Menard of Harrisonburg, Louisiana, and William Lafayette (Marcia) Menard of Dayton, Texas; and eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sibley and Josie Menard; four sisters, Mary Ives, Margaret Boehn, Abbie Lee Jones, and Agnes Elrod; and four brothers, Walter Morris Menard, David Menard, Wesley Menard, and Sibley Menard. All Mr. Menard’s siblings had resided in Arkansas.
Visitation for Mr. Menard will take place Friday evening, December 2, 2011, from 5 – 8 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be Saturday morning, December 3, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Gary Jones officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery.

Funeral Arrangements

I finally got the word this morning on the funeral arrangements for Paulette's Dad. I'm hoping it will be posted on the funeral home website today which is: www.edwardsfuneralhome.org.

The calling will be at the funeral from 5:00 - 8:00 on Friday evening and the funeral will be at 10:30 on Saturday morning. His burial will be at the New Hope Cemetery which is only 1 1/2 miles from their home and the little Baptist Church there is putting on a family meal following the burial.

We will be leaving very early on Friday morning and stay until Sunday, then I'll return home and have my surgery on Tuesday. Depending on how I feel, I may leave either Wednesday or Thursday to go back down to help finalize things for Paulette's mother and hopefully bring Paulette back home.

I'm sorry to miss two Sundays at Church, but this is out of my control. I am pleased to tell you that this Sunday you will hear an interesting message from John Chambers about the Star of Bethlehem then on the 11th, Doug Shoemaker will bring the morning message and his wife Kris will play the piano. Please come and support our Church and those who are standing in while I'm away. You will miss a blessing if you miss Church. Please continue to pray for us as we get through these tough days ahead.

Obituary

Obviously it is too early to know any arrangements for Paulette's Dad, but I thought I'd give you the website of the funeral home where they will post the obituary once it is done. Not sure they even have one written yet. His name is Don C. Paulette's Dad

About noon Indiana time, Paulette's Dad passed away. He had complained that his back was itching, so Paulette and her mother turned him and put some lotion on him and he said, "I hope I'm dying". Paulette's mother said, "now just remember the promises of the Scriptures we have talked about concerning the believers". He said, "Yes, I've been thinking a lot about that". They turned him back over and he looked up at the ceiling and smiled and said "OK", then drew his last breath. He was a bitter sweet moment for them. I'm so glad that Paulette was there with he and her mother during that, but they both certainly need all of our prayers on this end for God to give them strength to get through this. I'm not certain about going out for the funeral at this time. I will wait until after the surgery tomorrow and see how I get along. I just feel like I need to be with Paulette to support her and her Mom. Just really torn as to what to do. I have to say that I'm glad the suffering is over for him and I just know in my heart he is really happy to be in the presence of the Lord. My heart is heavy today as I remember all of the wonderful times we had over these past 38 years. Thank you all for your prayers.

Update

Paulette's Dad is still with us and we have been trying to figure out how to get Paulette down there before he passes. She wanted to wait to hear from her brother who arrived there today. After talking to him, we decided it's time to take her down. So, we are leaving very early in the morning (Thanksgiving Day) and hope to have her there by noon or so, then I will stay about an hour and head back to Indiana so I can be here to conduct a funeral service on Saturday, then oral surgery on Tuesday. I hate to have to leave her there, but this is a time when her mother needs her assistance and she certainly wants to be there for her Dad before he leaves this world. Thank goodness, Kaneesha was given the day off tomorrow and she is going to ride with us and help me drive back. Tomorrow is her and Brian's 4th wedding anniversary, but she felt this was too important so she can also see her grandpa one last time. So, please pray for us as we take off on this whirlwind trip. Maybe we will have a McDonald's for our Thanksgiving meal!!! LOL! See you all Sunday!!
